Description

The Tramex Concrete Moisture Encounter CMEX5, the updated CMEX2 concrete moisture meter, is a non-destructive digital concrete moisture meter for measuring quantitative moisture content in concrete floors and slabs. It also functions as a relative humidity meter with a built-in hygrometer measuring ambient relative humidity, temperature, dew point and humidity ratio (mixing ratio) of the environment. A bayonet plug-in port allows for optional wood pin probes or Tramex Hygro-i2 relative humidity sensors for measuring relative humidity in concrete as per ASTM F2170.

The CMEX5 determines instant and precise quantitative measurement of moisture content using gravimetric testing as a baseline, testing the concrete to a depth of approximately 3/4 inch (20mm) into the slab. It also provides quantitative Carbide Method equivalent readings for concrete and anhydrite/gypsum substrates and screeds, plus two reference scales for comparative readings, making it suitable for performing a concrete moisture test as per ASTM F2659.

With its hygrometer and optional external pin and RH probe functionality, the CMEX5 is the ultimate tool for testing concrete and flooring for professionals in the concrete coatings, wood flooring and water damage restoration industries. Its use can be extended with the optional Concrete Moisture Probe, which measures in-situ quantitative moisture content within the concrete to an extendable depth of up to 4 inches (100mm).

Concrete moisture test results can be visualised with the Tramex Meters App and turned into moisture maps, reports and charts for sharing. Bluetooth connectivity to mobile devices also allows GeoTagging of test results and the creation and sharing of photos. The CMEX5 is the new and improved version of the well-established Concrete Moisture Encounter Expert 2 (CMEX2).

Modes Of Operation

  1. Non-destructive test (NDT) mode: instant and precise quantitative measurement of moisture content in concrete floors and slabs using gravimetric testing as a baseline, plus Carbide Method equivalent readings for concrete and anhydrite/gypsum substrates and screeds and comparative readings as per ASTM F2659.
  2. Hygrometer mode: the built-in ambient relative humidity sensor measures ambient relative humidity, temperature, dew point and humidity ratio of the environment.
  3. Equilibrium relative humidity mode (optional plug-in probe): using optional plug-in Hygro-i2 RH probes, the CMEX5 measures equilibrium relative humidity, temperature, dew point and humidity ratio in structural materials. A concrete slab can be tested using the in-situ method or RH hood methods (international standards: ASTM F2170 and BS 8201, 8203, 5325). RH probes can also be used for ambient RH measurements within air spaces.
  4. Pin meter mode (optional plug-in probe): with the optional plug-in pin meter the CMEX5 becomes a resistance type meter measuring percentage moisture content (%MC) of wood, with international wood standards or pre-programmed wood species selectable. Pin meter mode can also be used for %MC in drywall and WME (Wood Moisture Equivalent) readings for other building materials.

Features

  • 4 modes of measurement: non-destructive moisture measurement, ambient hygrometer, and optional external in-situ hygrometer and wood pin probe
  • 5 non-destructive test (NDT) scales: Concrete %MC, CM Concrete (Carbide Method equivalent for concrete), CM Anhydrite/Gypsum (Carbide Method equivalent), Gypsum Reference 0-12 and a Reference scale
  • Instant and precise readings to a depth of approximately 3/4 inch (20mm) into the concrete slab, for reproducible and reliable results
  • Built-in hygrometer provides ambient relative humidity (%RH), temperature, dew point temperature and humidity ratio
  • Pin probe mode for 5% to 30% moisture content in wood, 0.0 to 8.5% moisture content in drywall, and 7 to 100 comparative (WME), using optional pin-type probe attachments
  • Attaches to a reusable Hygro-i2 relative humidity probe for in-situ and hood testing of concrete per BS 8201, 8203, 5325 and ASTM F2170 (optional)
  • Airspace conditions of relative humidity, temperature, dew point and humidity ratio (using optional RH probes)
  • Large, easy to read, clear digital display: 2.3″ x 1.4″ (58mm x 35mm)
  • Front lit display for easy reading in poor light conditions
  • Bluetooth connection to the accompanying iOS and Android app for reporting and moisture mapping
  • Hold function to freeze the reading where the meter face may not be visible
  • Spring-loaded contact pins compensate for uneven concrete and boost signal penetration
  • Rugged, ergonomically designed enclosure

How It Works

The CMEX5 detects and evaluates moisture conditions within the slab or screed by non-destructively measuring electrical impedance. A low frequency electronic signal is transmitted into the material under test via the electrodes in the base of the instrument. The strength of this signal varies in proportion to the amount of moisture present. The CMEX5 converts this to a moisture content value for concrete slabs and a comparative value for other cementitious floor screeds, displayed on a large clear digital display.

Applications & Suitable Materials

  • Quantitative moisture content measurement of concrete floors and slabs
  • Carbide Method equivalent readings for concrete and anhydrite/gypsum substrates and screeds
  • In-situ and hood relative humidity testing of concrete (with optional Hygro-i2 probes)
  • Moisture content of wood, drywall and WME readings for other building materials (with optional pin probes)
  • Plywood subfloor and OSB substrate moisture testing
  • Pre-installation testing for concrete coatings, flooring and water damage restoration work
